Description:
Phenol red, also known as phenol red, is a deep red crystalline powder, soluble in water, alcohol, acetone, almost insoluble in ether and chloroform. Phenol red dissolved in hydroxide or carbonic acid solution is a deep red, stable in the air, can be used for microbial culture in the identification medium; Acid-base indicator; Total measurement of blood carbon dioxide; Indicators of preparation of culture medium for bacterial serum test.
1. The o-sulfonated benzoic anhydride and phenol were co-melted, and anhydrous zinc chloride was added for reaction at 135-140℃ for 7h. Then the condensate was poured into hot water, filtered, and the solid was washed with water.
2. The mixture of o-sulfonyl benzoyl anhydride and phenol was co-heated to completely melt it. When the temperature was 130℃, anhydrous zinc chloride was added for reaction at 135 ~ 140℃ for 7h:
After the reaction, add water and heat until boiling, keep stirring until the smell of phenol disappears, centrifuge and shake dry, and wash the precipitation with water for a second time. Then add 10% sodium carbonate, heat, stand still, filter, wash and precipitate for a second time, slowly add dilute hydrochloric acid into filtrate, stir and heat to 60 ~ 80℃, then wash the cooled precipitation with water and add it into the above treated precipitation. After centrifugation, dry it and get phenol red.
