Description:Sodium 4-chlorophenoxyacetate is a white needle or prismatic crystal with a slight phenolic flavor. Melting point 154 ~ 156℃. Soluble in water. Stable property, long - term storage without deterioration. Sodium 4-chlorophenoxyacetate at low concentrations. It can promote plant growth, especially for dicotyledons, but at high concentration, it can inhibit the growth of dicotyledons.
Sodium 4-chlorophenoxyacetate was prepared by condensation and purification under alkaline conditions with p-chlorophenoxyacetate as raw materials.
Using phenol as raw material, phenol was placed in the reactor, heated and melted, 15% sodium hydroxide was added, then mixed aqueous solution of chloroacetic acid and sodium carbonate was added, and reflux reaction was heated for 4h. After the reactants are cooled, phenoxyacetic acid can be produced by neutralizing and acidifying the reactants with hydrochloric acid to the pH value of 2 ~ 3, with a yield of more than 82%. Phenoxyacetic acid dissolved in glacial acetic acid, catalyzed by iodine, slowly into chlorine gas at 26 ~ 34℃. The reactants were placed overnight and separated into p-chlorophenoxyacetic acid in cold water. After filtration and washing, they were dried. Sodium salt was obtained by neutralizing p-chlorophenoxyacetic acid with sodium carbonate.
