Description:N-methylacetamide is white spicules. Melting point 30.55℃ (28℃), boiling point 206℃, 140.5℃ (12kPa), relative density 0.9571 (25/4℃), refractive index 1.4301, flash point 108℃. Soluble in water, ethanol, benzene, ether, chloroform, insoluble in petroleum ether.
N-methylacetamide is obtained by the reaction of ethyl acetate and methylamine. The mixture of ethyl acetate and 65% methylamine was heated to about 60℃, and the reaction was conducted for 4 days and nights until no stratification was found, that is, the reaction was completed. Decompression distillation was used to recover ethanol, and n-methylacetamide was obtained by collecting 95-110℃ (4.0kpa) distillate.
N-methylacetamide has the excellent properties of dissolving other organic compounds, so it is often used as a solvent in organic synthesis. N-methylacetamide has catalytic effect on some chemical reactions and is another deacidifier in non-polar solvent.
