Description:N-Carbobenzyloxyglycine is a white crystalline or crystalline powder; soluble in methanol and chloroform, insoluble in cold water; mp is 119-120 °C.
The benzyl chloroformate and sodium hydroxide solution were added dropwise to the mixture of glycine and sodium hydroxide solution under cooling while stirring vigorously. After the reaction, the oil layer was separated and allowed to stand. The aqueous layer was extracted with diethyl ether, and then acidified to conne red acid. The precipitate was filtered, washed with water and dried to give N-Carbobenzyloxyglycine.
N-Carbobenzyloxyglycine is used for peptide synthesis and as an amino acid protection monomer.
