Description: Methyl orange is a kind of acid-base titration indicator commonly used in analytical chemistry. Its concentration of 0.1% aqueous solution has a pH of 3.1(red) ~ 4.4(yellow). It is suitable for titration between strong acids and strong and weak bases. In neutral or alkaline solution in the form of sulfonic acid sodium salt, conerted to sulfonic acid in acidic solution, so with intramolecular alkaline acid sulfo dimethyl amine to form within the dimethyl amino phenyl azo benzene sulfonic acid on salt type (paired quinone structure), become a conjugated system containing para quinone structure, so the color change, does not apply to make organic acid compounds indicator of titration. It is also used for spectrophotometric determination of chlorine, bromine and bromide ions. And used for biological dyeing and so on. Methyl orange has been used in laboratory and industrial and agricultural production as the ph control of chemical reactions and acid-base titration analysis of chemical products and intermediates. Printing and dyeing industry on the remaining ph indicator should be measured and washed, so that the weaving appears neutral. If the cloth has acidity, dyeing or printing with reactive dyes will affect its color and fastness. The drawback of methyl orange indicators is that the yellow-red color is difficult to identify and has been replaced by a wide range of indicators (see "phenolphthalein"). Methyl orange is also an azo dye that can be used to dye textiles.
