L-Citrulline is an amino acid that supports the body in optimizing blood flow through its conversion to L-arginine and then nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is involved in vasodilatation and low levels are associated with mental and physical fatigue and sexual dysfunction. L-Citrulline, is a metabolite in the urea cycle and is involved in liver detoxification and vasodilatation pathways. It is produced in the urea cycle when carbamoyl phosphate is converted to L-Citrulline in the ornithine carbamoyl transferees reaction. When endogenous supplies of ornithine carbamoyl transferees are insufficient, supplemental L-Citrulline has been shown to support ammonia incorporation and liver detoxification of ammonia.
