Description:Isopropyl-beta-d-thiogalactopyranoside is a inducer with strong effects, which is not metabolized by bacteria and is very stable, so it is widely used by the laboratory. IPTG is often used in cloning experiments that require the induction of beta-galactosidase activity. It is often used in combination with x-gal or bluo-gal for blue-white screening of recombinant bacterial colonies that induce lac operon expression in escherichia coli. IPTG binds to lacI repressor protein and changes its conformation to play a role in preventing the inhibition of lacZ, the gene encoding beta-galactoside.

The isopropyl-beta-d-thiogalactopyranoside has the properties of inducing the synthesis of the enzymes, which are not broken down, and they are called consolation inducers. Because lactose induces the synthesis of the enzyme, but then breaks it down, causing many complex kinetic problems, people often use the inducer for various experiments.
