Description:Dioctylamine is a colorless or pale yellow liquid with an ammonia odor. It is an excellent amine solvent, an intermediate for preparing an antistatic agent, a softener, a surfactant, a bactericide, and an extractant.
Dioctylamine is slightly harmful to water. Do not allow undiluted or large quantities of product to come into contact with ground water, waterways or sewage systems. Do not discharge materials into the surrounding environment without government permission.
Dioctylamine is obtained by heating chlorooctane and ammonia in ethanol or catalyzing the reaction of octanol with ammonia under the catalysis of alumina-carbon. Therefore, it often contains unreacted materials and other octylamine impurities. It is refined by the method of dehydration by adding sodium metal and distillation.
Dioctylamine is an excellent amine solvent. It is an intermediate for preparing antistatic agents, softeners, surfactants, and fungicides. It is also used as an extractant.
