Basic Violet 1 is an alkaline dye, a mixture of tetramethyl chloride - pentamethyl chloride - and hexamethyl chloride - pararosaniline. Basic Violet 1 is soluble in water, ethanol, chloroform, all purple, insoluble in ether. Basic Violet 1 was obtained by co-heating dimethylaniline, phenol, table salt and copper sulfate. In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used for dyeing wool, silk and cotton products processed with tannin. It is also used for dyeing straw, paper, leather, fat, feather and inks, printing colors, carbon paper and color pencils. Medicine is mainly used as antiseptic, its pure 10g/L aqueous solution that is commonly used purple potion. Basic Violet 1 is used for infections of gram-positive bacteria and molds, mucous membranes and skin ulcers, as well as burns. Administration can also treat pinworm infection.
