Description:Basic Green 1 is a shiny Green sand. Dissolves in cold water and hot water, aqueous solution appears green. Highly soluble in ethanol and green in color. Yellow in concentrated sulfuric acid and green in dilution. Adding sodium hydroxide to its aqueous solution produces a pale green precipitate.
Basic Green 1 is obtained by condensation of N, n-diethylaniline and benzaldehyde in the presence of urea, followed by oxidation with lead dioxide and hydrochloric acid, then removal of lead with sodium sulfate, neutralization with sodium carbonate, dissolution with sulfuric acid, crystallization, filtration and drying.
Basic Green 1 is used for dyeing cotton, silk, acrylic and hemp. Also used for paper dyeing and the production of lake color. It can be used medically as a disinfectant for external use.
