Although Hygromycin B has low toxicity, it can cause hearing and visual impairment in pigs after long-term application. Therefore, young sows for breeding cannot use this product. Sows and hogs should not be used for more than 8 weeks.

Hydamycin B is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that kills bacteria, fungi, and advanced eukaryotic cells by inhibiting protein synthesis.

Hydomycin B inhibited protein synthesis by interfering with shift and promoting mistranslation of ribosomes (70S).

The effective concentration selected by mammalian cells is usually between 50 micron /ml and 1 mg/ml. For plant cells, the effective concentration is 20 to 200 mug /ml. For bacteria, the effective concentration is 20 to 200 mug /ml. For fungi, the effective concentration is 200 mugs -- 1 mg/ml.
